In-transit Inventory Ownership in Oracle Fusion

Understanding In-Transit Inventory Ownership in Oracle Fusion Internal Transfers

In Oracle Fusion Inventory Management, the ownership of material during an internal transfer depends on whether the transfer occurs within the same Business Unit (BU) or across different Business Units. The system uses predefined logic to determine when the ownership shifts from the shipping organization to the receiving organization.

1. Transfers Between Inventory Organizations Within the Same Business Unit

When two inventory organizations (Org A and Org B) belong to the same BU, Oracle Fusion always assumes that ownership transfers at the point of in-transit shipment.

How the ownership behaves:

  • Org A ships the material.
  • As soon as the shipment is confirmed, the material moves into an in-transit state.
  • Even while the goods are physically in transit, the ownership belongs to Org B (the receiving organization).
  • This means Org A no longer owns the inventory from the moment it is shipped.

Important Note

This ownership logic is system-driven and cannot be changed.
Oracle does not provide any configuration to override this behavior for same-BU transfers.

2. Transfers Between Inventory Organizations Across Different Business Units

When the transfer happens across BUs, Oracle provides more flexibility through Supply Chain Financial Orchestration (SCFO).

·       With SCFO

Using SCFO, customers can configure when the ownership changes:

  • Ownership can change at Inter-Organization Shipment, or
  • Ownership can change at Inter-Organization Receipt.

This allows organizations to align financial ownership with commercial, tax, compliance, or operational requirements.

·       Without SCFO

If a Financial Orchestration flow is not defined:

  • Oracle defaults to the similar logic as Within-BU transfers.
  • Ownership automatically transfers at the In-Transit Shipment, even when the transfer is across BUs.

This means SCFO is optional, but without it, the system applies the standard ownership transfer assumption.

Scenario

Ownership Transfer Point

Configurable?

Transfer within same BU

In-Transit Shipment

No (system default, cannot be overridden)

Transfer across BUs with SCFO

Configurable: Shipment or Receipt

Yes

Transfer across BUs without SCFO

In-Transit Shipment

No (same as intra-BU)

Speed Up Your Oracle Fusion Tasks: Best Practices for Multi-Screen Navigation

Mastering Multitasking in Oracle Fusion: Working with Multiple Screens the Smart Way

Oracle Fusion Applications are designed with a modern, web-based interface that allows users to work across multiple screens, tabs, and tasks at the same time, improving productivity and supporting parallel business activities. This capability becomes especially useful for users in SCM, Procurement, Inventory, and Finance who frequently need cross-references between transactions, setups, and reports.

1.       Opening multiple tabs in the same browser:

This method allows the user to open several Oracle Fusion pages within separate tabs of a single browser window (e.g., multiple tabs in Chrome or Edge).

Users need not have multiple browsers installed. We can open and work on multiple screens using the single browser as explained below-

1.       Login to Oracle Cloud application

2.       Copy the URL as shown below and paste in in the new tab.

Important Note: Do Not use Duplicate option to create the new tab for this screen. It will create the new tab but will not allow to perform different task. It will refresh the data in both tabs.

Now you can see the home page for new tab as well.

Users can open multiple Fusion pages in separate browser tabs, enabling side-by-side comparison and faster switching between tasks.
Key Points:

  • Each tab operates as an independent session view under the same login.
  • Users can easily switch between tasks without navigating back and forth within the same screen.
  • Useful for comparing data across modules, such as:
    • Item Setup in one tab and On-Hand Balances in another
    • Purchase Order in one tab and Supplier Profile in another.
  • The browser shares the same cookies/session, so authentication is seamless.
  • Recommended for multitasking when working within the same environment (same instance and BU).

Advantages:

  • Fast switching between tabs
  • No additional browser memory overhead
  • Convenient for users accustomed to multi-tab browsing.

Considerations:

  • If the session times out in one tab, it may impact the others.
  • Heavy use may affect performance if too many tabs are open.

2. Opening multiple tabs in the different browsers:

This option involves opening different Fusion pages across separate browsers (e.g., Chrome + Edge + Firefox).

If users have multiple browsers installed, then it will be an added advantage. We can open and work on multiple screens using the multiple browsers as explained below-

1.       Login to Oracle Cloud application in one browser (E.g., Edge)

2.       Copy the URL as shown below and paste in in the new tab in another browser (E.g., Chrome).

Since it is a different browser, system will seek for the login credentials-

Enter the login details and start working in this browser with additional tabs.

Key Points:

  • Each browser maintains its own session, cache, and cookies.
  • Ideal for users who need to log in to different Fusion environments simultaneously (e.g., PRODUCTION in Chrome, TEST in Edge).
  • Helps isolate tasks when testing, troubleshooting, or comparing configurations across environments.
  • Reduces the risk of session override issues when switching between roles or responsibilities.

Advantages:

  • Better performance when handling multiple heavy pages or dashboards.
  • Allows login into multiple environments at the same time.
  • Reduces cross-tab session conflicts.

Considerations:

  • Requires more system memory (RAM).
  • Users need to keep track of which browser corresponds to which environment.
  • Not necessary for simple multitasking within the same Fusion instance.

3. Opening multiple screens in the single tab:

This approach allows users to work with multiple screens within same work area using built-in navigation options like:

  • Navigator menu
  • Springboard tiles - Infolets

One of the best features here is that some functional areas like Costing, Purchasing etc. allows opening multiple screens in the single tab as shown below-

This is not available in Inventory Management area as of now.

Key Points:

  • Oracle Fusion supports internal multi-view navigation within one tab.
  • Users can open detailed pages, popouts, or related objects without leaving the main page.

Advantages:

  • Clean and controlled navigation path
  • Lower system resource usage
  • Helps avoid confusion created by too many tabs or windows.

Considerations:

  • Limited flexibility compared to multi-tab browsing
  • Switching back and forth may require page reloads.
  • Not ideal for side-by-side comparisons
  • Some screens may override the previous view depending on UI design.

Option

Best Use Case

Key Benefit

1. Multiple tabs in same browser

Multitasking within same environment

Quick and convenient switching

2. Multiple tabs in different browsers

Working across PROD, TEST, DEV simultaneously

Isolated sessions and better stability

3. Multiple screens within a single tab

Guided navigation, single workflow tasks

Controlled navigation with minimal resource use

Summary:

Users can work with multiple screens in Oracle Fusion either by opening several tabs within the same browser for quick multitasking, using different browsers to manage multiple environments or isolated sessions, or navigating multiple screens within a single tab through Fusion’s built-in work areas and pop outs. Together, these options provide flexibility for parallel processing, cross-referencing data, and managing complex tasks efficiently.

Working with multiple screens simultaneously in Oracle Fusion enhances productivity by enabling users to operate across various tasks, modules, and views in parallel. It reduces redundant navigation, supports cross-functional analysis, and improves the overall user experience.
